Jimmy Dahu

Jimmy Dahu joined McDonald Carano’s Las Vegas office in 2024. He works with the Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Financial Restructuring Practice Group and the Commercial & Complex Litigation Practice Group. Jimmy brings an 18-year legal career primarily focused on bankruptcy and financial restructuring matters.

Jimmy has been intimately involved in consumer and commercial bankruptcy cases from the perspective of an attorney in a large international firm, an attorney in a mid-sized regional firm, and more than 13 years of experience clerking, interning, and volunteering with bankruptcy courts in New York, Alabama, Rhode Island, and most recently Nevada, where he enjoyed the privilege of working with Judge Laurel Davis/Babero, Judge Spraker, Judge Beesley, Judge Nakagawa, Judge Zive, and Judge Cox. These experiences have provided Jimmy with the unique opportunity to gain practical experience in all chapters of the Bankruptcy Code and expertise in catering pleadings and oral argument to suit the preferences of judges and their law clerks.

Jimmy’s legal experience includes:

• Successfully defended reorganized ASARCO, LLC (in what the U.S. Department of Justice described in 2009 as the largest environmental bankruptcy case) against administrative expense claimants in the Bankruptcy Court for the S.D. Tex. and through subsequent appeals to the United States District Court for the S.D. Tex. and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. See Meritain Health, Inc. v. ASARCO LLC (In re ASARCO LLC), Case No. 2:11-225 (S.D. Tex. Aug. 23, 2012) aff’d 12-41037 (5th Cir. June 11, 2013); Scrip World, LLC v. ASARCO, LLC (In re ASARCO LLC), Case No. 2:11-228 (S.D. Tex. Aug. 24, 2012) aff’d No. 12-41047 (5th Cir. June 11, 2013).
• Represented a nationwide insurer of bonds with potential exposure in excess of $1 billion in a Nevada Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
• Represented a pre-petition secured lender with a claim in excess of $40 million in a construction-related Arizona Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
• Researched, reviewed, and drafted the majority of pleadings during the Chapter 11 representation of a corporate debtor with hundreds of millions of dollars in assets and liabilities. The bankruptcy case successfully concluded with a confirmed liquidating plan and a sale of substantially all assets, which allowed the company to continue operating as a going concern and saved jobs. In re Propex, Inc., Case No. 08-10249 (Bankr. E.D. Tenn.).
• Represented sole equity holder in corporate-debtor bankruptcy case with over $500 million in assets and over $300 million in liabilities.
• Represented debtors, creditors, and equity holders in Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, New York, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
• During my clerkships, I worked on thousands of contested matters and adversary proceedings in Chapters 7, 11, 13, 15, Subchapter V, and involuntary proceedings.
