Professional Background
Ian DeValliere joined McDonald Carano’s Reno office in 2024 as a member of the Tax, Trust & Estates, and Business Entities & Transactions Practice Groups. Ian was also a member of these practice groups as a Summer Associate at McDonald Carano May 2023-August 2023 and May 2022-August 2022. Ian conducted legal research, drafted memorandums, and supported a variety of legal services for family trust companies and high-net worth individuals.
Ian’s background includes serving as a Legislative Assistant in the Office of Senator Heidi Seevers O’Gara in the Nevada State Senate. He maintained the daily administrative and legislative processes, developed presentations for proposed legislation, organized constituent meetings, tracked legislation, prepared constituent correspondence, and researched a variety of policy matters. (January 2021-June 2021)
Ian also served in the Executive Office of the President of the United States (EOP) as an Executive Assistant for the White House Domestic Policy Council/Office of Public Liaison. In that role, he organized policy efforts within the Domestic Policy Council and other EOP components by tracking Executive Order timelines and regulatory actions, working with EOP offices on policy details and communications staff on messaging, and rollouts of major policy decisions. He also led the White House policy process on name, image, and likeness payments for student athletes which included meeting with outside groups, developing a communications strategy, and drafting White House policy principles. Ian also coordinated stakeholder outreach to business groups on major White House policy announcements by planning stakeholder calls after Executive Order signings and bringing in stakeholders impacted by regulatory actions at different points during the policy process. (July 2019- December 2020)
Ian’s experience also includes serving as an Intern on the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. He drafted memoranda for legislative staff on regulations, legislation, and major infrastructure projects relating to NEPA, the Clean Air Act, GSA prospectus, and surface transportation. He also handled committee correspondence from agencies, executive offices, members of Congress, and trade associations. (January 2019- May 2019)
During law school, Ian’s leadership activities included serving as Executive Managing Editor of the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy, a Teaching Assistant for Professor Bruce Huber (Property Law), and a Student Fellow of the Notre Dame Religious Liberty Clinic Transactional Section. In this role, he worked directly with a variety of religious nonprofit organizations around the country to advise them on tax, corporate, transactional, employment, and strategic issues. He also participated in the GALILEE Public Interest Immersion Program in Las Vegas and the Natural Resources Law Study Abroad Program in the United Kingdom.
