Supporting Veterans through the Nevada Military Support Alliance
McDonald Carano proudly serves as a Star Sponsor of the 2023 Gala for the Nevada Military Support Alliance which has raised millions of dollars to help Nevada veterans and their families. The honored guest speaker at the May 20 Gala is USAF Maj (ret) Brian Shul. As an Air Force fighter pilot, Major Shul was shot down in the Vietnam War and severely burned in the ensuing crash. Initially given up for dead, he was finally rescued and spent one year in hospitals, endured 15 surgeries, and was told his flying days were over. Amazingly, Major Shul returned to active duty flying, and became one of only 89 men in history to fly the SR-71 spy plane, the fastest jet ever built. Jerry Bussell, Perry M. Di Loreto and Joe W. Brown established the Nevada Patriot Fund in 2003 as a source of financial assistance for the families of Nevada soldiers killed in the line of duty. The Fund is a tax-exempt organization now administrated as the Nevada Military Support Alliance. NMSA initially served as a fund that would pay an immediate death benefit to the families of every Nevada soldier who lost his or her life in military service to our Nation because sometimes there was a delay from the military in the provision of death benefits, but families of the fallen soldier still had mouths to feed, house payments to make, medicines to purchase, etc. As the needs of Nevada’s military families have changed over time, so too has NMSA to meet those needs.
Since its founding 20 years ago by her late husband Jerry Bussell who retired as a full Colonel in the Nevada Army National Guard, McDonald Carano Partner Pat Lundvall has continued to serve in numerous volunteer leadership roles at NMSA, including currently serving as a Vice President of the organization. McDonald Carano greatly appreciates Pat Lundvall and so many of our attorneys and professional staff who dedicate time, energy and funds to support NMSA every year.
- To honor, recognize and appreciate Nevada’s military men and women, veterans, and their families.
- To express gratitude for courageously and selflessly defending the freedoms that we enjoy every day.
- To provide support and assistance for the challenges and sacrifices that are made on our behalf.
