Women Leadership Awards and Recognitions

Nevada became the first state with a majority female legislature in 2019 and has maintained its majority female legislature during the most recent three election cycles. After the 2024 General Elections, both chambers of the Nevada Legislature are 61 percent women. Also in 2019, for the first time in Nevada history, more women than men served on the Supreme Court of Nevada with a 4-3 majority on the court. Five out of seven of the Justices currently serving on the Supreme Court of Nevada are women. The first woman justice, Justice Miriam Shearing, was elected to the Supreme Court of Nevada in 1992, after having served as a district court judge in Clark County.

Best Places for Women to Work in Northern Nevada

In 2025, McDonald Carano received two recognitions in the inaugural Best Places for Women to Work in Northern Nevada survey created by the Nevada Women’s Fund. McDonald Carano is recognized in the categories of Empowerment Through Mentorship and Empowerment Through Purpose Driven Work, “demonstrating a true commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive, and equitable workplaces for women.” McDonald Carano is the only law firm recognized in the survey of employers representing more than 33,000 employees across Northern Nevada. Male Ally Award

In 2025, McDonald Carano’s support of our women attorneys and government affairs professionals was recognized by Meritas when it awarded Mark Buckovich, our Director of Marketing, the Male Ally of the Year award. Meritas is a global network of more than 170 law firms in over 90 countries. Presented by the Meritas Women’s Leadership Congress, the Male Ally award recognizes our success in “securing numerous awards for McDonald Carano’s senior and associate women lawyers, along with speaking engagements and authorships, raising their profile among current and potential clients and referral sources.”
