McDonald Carano Helps Liberty Media Corporation
Bring Formula One Racing to the Las Vegas Strip
McDonald Carano congratulates our client Liberty Media Corporation on bringing Formula One racing to the Las Vegas Strip beginning 2023. “We are proud to work with Liberty Media to help bring the pinnacle of global motorsport to the world’s iconic entertainment destination,” Andrew Gabriel, Chair of McDonald Carano’s Real Estate & Land Use Practice and Business Entities & Transactions Practice. The Las Vegas Grand Prix will be the third Formula One race in the U.S. and is scheduled for November 2023. It will be more than a race; it will be a marquee event that is expected to bring in more than 170,000 visitors to Las Vegas, over 400,000 room nights for the first race, and create an indirect economic impact of about $1 billion.
Initially planned to take place for at least the next three years, the 14-turn 3.8-mile (6.1 km) circuit from start to finish will run nearly the entire length of the Strip. The 50-lap race will reach top speeds of over 212 mph (342 km/h). The race includes multiple practice sessions, qualifying race, and the grand prix itself which will be held on a Saturday night. Beginning in a lot just off Harmon Avenue, drivers will head to Koval Lane and race north, and then loop around the MSG Sphere, which is currently under construction. A segment along Sands Avenue will take drivers onto the Strip at the Spring Mountain Road intersection and head south where the section of track along the Strip will run for approximately 1.2 miles until a complex of corners brings drivers back to Harmon Avenue toward the start/finish line.
