Celebrating Over 75 Years of Serving Nevada’s Legal, Business, Government, and Civic Communities

John Fortin: Vegas Inc’s “Top Lawyers” in Civil Rights

McDonald Carano congratulates John Fortin on being one of only two attorneys recognized in the “Civil Rights” category in Vegas Inc’s list of “Top Lawyers” in 2023. The “Top Lawyers” list is the result of a peer-nominated survey sent to practicing attorneys in Clark County inviting them to recommend Top Lawyers in specific areas of law. As the publication explains, “the peer-nominated list is an opportunity to recognize some of the most well-regarded legal professionals in the Valley. It is an honor to recognize the powerhouse lawyers who work tirelessly for their clients and the community. The individuals on the Top Lawyers list have been vouched for by the people who know best what they do—people with firsthand knowledge of their work ethic and tireless dedication to the law.” This Top Lawyers list is published here in the June 29 issue of Las Vegas Weekly.

John’s recognition in the Civil Rights category reflects his extensive pro bono service. For example, John received 300 Hours Club Certificate recognition in 2022 and 2021 from the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. He is also recognized as LACSN’s Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month for November 2022. One of John’s pro bono matters is featured in articles recently published in both Law360 Access to Justice (March 11, 2023) and Reuters’ Daily Docket (January 20, 2023). As John stated in the interview for the Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month award, “The American Bar Association and the Nevada Bar Association recommend providing 50 hours of pro bono services every year. I view that number as a minimum and provide far more every year because, in my view, it is a duty for those fortunate enough to be admitted to the Bar to provide as much pro bono services to those in need that they can.”
