Celebrating Over 75 Years of Serving Nevada’s Legal, Business, Government, and Civic Communities

John Fortin: Vegas Inc’s “Top Lawyers” in Appellate, Business, and Civil Rights Litigation

McDonald Carano congratulates John Fortin on being one of only two attorneys recognized in the Civil Rights Litigation category in Vegas Inc’s list of “Top Lawyers” in 2024. John is also recognized in the Appellate and Business Litigation categories.

The “Top Lawyers” list is the result of a peer-nominated survey sent to practicing attorneys in Clark County inviting them to recommend Top Lawyers in specific areas of law. As the publication explains, “the peer-nominated list is an opportunity to recognize some of the most well-regarded legal professionals in the Valley. It is an honor to recognize the powerhouse lawyers who work tirelessly for their clients and the community. The individuals on the Top Lawyers list have been vouched for by the people who know best what they do—people with firsthand knowledge of their work ethic and tireless dedication to the law.” The Top Lawyers list is published in the June 13 issue of Las Vegas Weekly.

John’s recognition in the Civil Rights Litigation category reflects his extensive pro bono service. For example, John received 300 Pro Bono Hours Club recognition in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 from the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. He is also recognized as LACSN’s Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month for November 2022. As John stated in the interview for the Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month award, “The American Bar Association and the Nevada Bar Association recommend providing 50 hours of pro bono services every year. I view that number as a minimum and provide far more every year because, in my view, it is a duty for those fortunate enough to be admitted to the Bar to provide as much pro bono
services to those in need that they can.”

One of John’s high-profile pro bono matters received the following extensive media coverage. John describes his work on that case in an article published in the December 2023 issue of the Clark County Bar Association’s Communiqué magazine. John’s article, “Gaining Valuable Experience Through Pro Bono: An Example from Civil Forfeiture,” includes his insights on how pro bono representation creates opportunities for young lawyers to gain invaluable experience early in their careers.
