Inside Scoop on Getting a Gaming License in Nevada

Jonathan Jossel is the CEO of Plaza Hotel & Casino. At the age of 29 he became the youngest licensed casino operator in Nevada. Gaming Law Partner Dennis Gutwald guided Jonathan through the licensing application, investigation, and interviews before the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the Nevada Gaming Commission.

In a December 22 podcast Jonathan and Dennis shared their licensing experience, insights on the NGCB’s scrutiny as it builds the record, and keys to successfully completing the intense licensing process. They also explained that there is much more than just getting a casino licensed; there are issues relating to land use, zoning, and special use permits, as well as operational issues relating to liquor sales and expanding gaming outside the footprint of the casino. Jonathan and Dennis also discussed the evolutionary impact that private equity and sportsbooks are already having on the Nevada gaming industry, as well as future evolutionary changes relating to the possibility of unlimited online gaming in Nevada and federal deregulation of cannabis.

The Dec. 22 podcast is part of the Plaza Hotel and Casino’s “On the Corner of Main Street” podcast series that covers everything making Downtown Las Vegas a fast-growing destination, from gaming and special events to new projects and the art scene.
