Celebrating Over 75 Years of Serving Nevada’s Legal, Business, Government, and Civic Communities

Leo Bergin Receives
Influential Leader Recognition

McDonald Carano congratulates Leo Bergin on his recognition in the “Influential Leader” category in Northern Nevada Business Weekly’s Best In Business Awards 2025. The Best In Business Awards determine “which business leaders and companies have had the biggest impact in the Northern Nevada business community.”

The Best In Business Awards contest is based on a three-week online nomination period and a three-week online finalist voting period open to the public. The awards committee selected only three Influential Leader winners representing the recipients of the three highest numbers of votes.

Here on pages B17 and B18, and provided below, is the publication’s description of Leo’s Influential Leadership recognition.

Leo Bergin joined McDonald Carano in 1970. In addition to his full-time law practice, Bergin served as the firm’s first Managing Partner, from 1972-2002. He is credited with establishing the financial, operational, and business planning foundation that is instrumental in the firm’s more than 75 years of ongoing success. Bergin’s continuing leadership at McDonald Carano includes serving on the Executive Committee and Marketing Committee.

McDonald Carano has grown from four attorneys when Bergin joined to more than 60 attorneys and government affairs professionals working from offices in Reno, Las Vegas and Carson City.

Bergin’s influential leadership in the legal profession extends beyond the borders of Nevada to reach around the world through his co-founding of Meritas in 1990. Meritas is a pioneering global referral network of more than 170 vetted and certified law firms that help clients do business in more than 90 countries. McDonald Carano is the only Nevada firm in Meritas and Bergin continues to serve as McDonald Carano’s lead representative.

Bergin has been serving on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows since 2004. Bergin received a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his leadership in helping the Boys & Girls Club thrive and grow. Bergin’s more than 20 years of ongoing Board membership has overseen the expansion to 59 locations serving 14,500 youth across seven counties. Bergin is particularly recognized for his inspirational leadership in developing, funding and building the Donald L. Carano Youth & Teen Clubhouse in Reno and the William N. Pennington Youth & Teen facilities in Reno and Winnemucca. Bergin’s influential leadership in the business community is also recognized by receiving the Skill, Integrity & Responsibility award from the Associated General Contractors of Nevada.

In the 2025 Best In Business Awards contest, there were more than 250 finalists in 31 categories. The complete list of winners in all 31 categories is available here.
