Celebrating Over 75 Years of Serving Nevada’s Legal, Business, Government, and Civic Communities

Eric Duhon Earns Real Estate Development Certificate from Cornell University

McDonald Carano congratulates Eric Duhon on completing the Real Estate Development Certificate Program from Cornell University. He is also a graduate of the Developing Leaders Institute provided by NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Eric is a member of the Real Estate & Land Use Practice and Business Entities & Transaction Practice in our Reno office. He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America as “Ones to Watch” in Real Estate Law and Mergers & Acquisitions Law.

The Cornell University Real Estate Development Certificate Program is designed to provide the skills and practical knowledge to take a commercial development project from conception to launch. The program includes the following course requirements:

  • Introduction to Commercial Real Estate Development
  • Managing Real Estate Development Projects
  • Real Estate Site Selection Analysis and Decisions
  • Creating the Real Estate Development Package
  • Preparing and Delivering the Project Pitch
  • Creating the Basis of Design for Real Estate Projects
  • Instilling Resiliency in Real Estate Development Projects

The certificate program focuses on how to effectively manage commercial development projects to maximize value. Utilizing specific case studies, students determine a project’s feasibility, develop project management skills, and systematically compare competing commercial development sites to ensure the selection aligns with project goals. Students then create, cultivate, and communicate the project’s vision, scope, and feasibility in a development package to share with key stakeholders to gain support for a project. This prepares students for creating a Basis of Design document which will become the foundation for the project team’s choices, rationale, and decision making throughout the process. To highlight the project’s benefits and opportunities to the broader community, students also develop a financial pitch designed to realistically promote the project. As the final piece, students develop plans to overcome unexpected project challenges.
