Energy Attorney Curt Ledford Joins Clean Energy Project (CEP) as New Chair

November 30, 2017 – The Clean Energy Project (CEP) announced today that Curt Ledford, a leading Nevada energy attorney, has joined the Board of Directors and assumed the role of Board Chair.

Ledford is a partner at the law firm McDonald Carano and is a leader in the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources Group. He focuses on utility, energy, and regulatory law, including matters related to generation facilities, renewable energy development, and Nevada’s various utilities. He previously served as General Counsel for Valley Electric Association, a Nevada cooperative utility that provides electric service to members in rural Nevada and California. Ledford is one of Nevada’s foremost energy and utility attorneys, playing a critical role in state and regional energy policy developments. Recent successes include the groundbreaking move by Valley Electric to join the California ISO, the 2016 “grandfathering” docket before the Public Utility Commission of Nevada that resulted in many of the state’s net metering customers receiving Nevada’s original initial economic terms for net metering service, and most recently, implementation of Nevada’s 2017 rooftop solar and storage legislation. Ledford also has extensive experience with the regional and national governing bodies that regulate the electricity industry.

Upon accepting the position as Chair, Ledford looked to both CEP’s history and its future. “It is truly an honor to be selected as the next Chair of an organization that has done so much for the clean energy movement in Nevada, and this country. Following the vision of Senator Reid, Governor Sandoval, and other state and national leaders, CEP continues to be at the forefront of intelligent development and integration of clean energy resources in Nevada, the region, and the nation as a whole. Thank you to this board, Kathleen, Karen, and all past and current CEP advocates for all your incredible success. I am quite humbled, and very excited for this opportunity to continue in the development of CEP’s future.”

The CEP Board of Directors was previously chaired for four years by Kathleen Drakulich, who resigned after being appointed by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval to the Second Judicial District Court. “Curt brings deep expertise in energy policy and law to the Clean Energy Project. His leadership will help guide CEP as it expands its mission and broadens its engagement with clean energy stakeholders here in Nevada and beyond. I have worked with Curt for many years and have been impressed with his drive and commitment, and I am thrilled he will be at the helm as CEP takes on new initiatives.”

Karen Wayland, CEP’s Executive Director, expressed her appreciation for Drakulich’s service. “Kathleen has been an outstanding leader in the clean energy space as a lawyer and as an advocate. We will miss her vision and her boundless energy but are heartened that Nevada will continue to benefit from her sharp legal mind as she takes on this new role. Judge Drakulich, we with you the best of luck.”

Earlier this year, CEP added Jon Wellinghoff, former chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and a leading thinker on clean energy policy, to the Board of Directors and brought on Dr. Wayland, a nationally recognized energy expert and former senior official at the U.S. Department of Energy, as its new Executive Director. This new leadership team reflects CEP’s expanded mission to successfully influence policy debates not just in Nevada but at the regional and national level through outreach to businesses, stakeholders and decision-makers with non-partisan, fact-based analysis and advocacy in support of continued development of the West’s growing clean energy sector.

Clean Energy Project, Inc. (CEP) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to powering the clean energy economy through education and engagement with policy leaders, community leaders and citizens on the benefits of fully developing a clean energy economy. We do this by partnering with businesses and business focused organizations, federal, state and local government, and community organizations.
