8th Lawyer of the Year Award in Gaming Law
In the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, McDonald Carano celebrated our eighth Lawyer of the Year award in Gaming Law. A.G. Burnett received the award in 2025, 2023 and 2020. A.J. “Bud” Hicks received the award in 2024, 2021, 2018 and 2012. Rick Trachok received the award in 2022. A.G. Burnett and Dennis Gutwald also both received the Lawyer of the Year award in Administrative & Regulatory Law in 2025.
Lawyer of the Year honors are awarded to only one lawyer in a specific area of law in a specific region who achieves “extremely high overall feedback from their peers, making it an exceptional distinction.” Only 0.4% of those in private practice received the Lawyer of the Year distinction. Though they each serve clients from around the world with gaming interests throughout the state of Nevada, A.G., Bud and Rick are located in our Reno office so they received the awards for the northern Nevada region and Dennis is located in our Las Vegas office so he received the award for the southern Nevada region.
Bud has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America since 2012, Rick has been recognized since 2017, and A.G. and Dennis have been recognized since 2020.
