(Reno, NV) – McDonald Carano Wilson LLP Partner A.J. “Bud” Hicks has been appointed by Governor Brian Sandoval to serve as a member of the Governor’s Planning Committee for the 150th Anniversary of Nevada’s Admission to the Union, the firm announced today.
“I’m honored that the Governor has appointed me to this very special committee,” Hicks said. “I know that the governor, like me, takes Nevada history very seriously. I look forward to working with the other committee members to ensure we appropriately recognize and celebrate Nevada’s admission to the Union.”
Hicks has tremendous knowledge of Nevada’s history, particularly in one of its primary industries: gaming. Hicks has a statewide reputation as one of Nevada’s premier gaming lawyers, having grown up in and worked with the industry for more than 40 years. Before entering private practice with McDonald Carano Wilson, he worked with the Nevada Gaming Control Board and served as Chief Deputy in the Nevada Attorney General’s office handling gaming matters. Along with his work with Nevada’s primary industry, Hicks said there is also sentimental value in his appointment to this committee.
“I graduated from high school in the year that marked the 100th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union,” Hicks said. “At the time we all received a memorial coin marking Nevada’s centennial. I still have that coin and often think about how much Nevada has changed since then. I’m excited to work on this important project for Governor Sandoval.”
